I’ve won a golden owl today ! C’est chouette !

(I just did the calculation, and it took me 213 days to finish the game)

I think this is the famous Maxim 08/15 machine gun from WW1.

The word 08/15 lives on as an idiom in colloquial German, 08/15 (pronounced Null-acht-fünfzehn), being used even today as an adjective to denote something totally ordinary and lacking in originality or specialness. However, this is one of several possible origins of the idiom.

Is that Duolingo’s unsubtle way to tell me I’m studying German too hard ?

So today is my 100th day of duolinguism. They should do like AA and give you a little medal that you can show to people so they can commiserate. But bar that, here’s my bragging screenshot. I’m still very much not fluent in German, but I can now communicate with the strange people from the other side of the Roestigraben, given they speak slowly, make effort to articulate, and use simple words. But I can already give a roasting to people doing stupid things, and German is a wonderful language to do that kind of things.

How I’m learning German : working hardcore sessions on Duolingo, learning complicated words with flash cards, taking a lot of notes in a Polish notebook, listening intensely to Bach and drinking violent lemon tea.

I don’t have at all an addictive personality. I can stop German whenever I want*.

*Yeah, I know that’s what French generals also thought in 1940.

Duolingo is so edgy. Or maybe it’s just German spirit.
